- ➤ 14-year-old Trent Carson now runs Trent Cares, a nonprofit that began when he asked for grocery gift cards to feed the homeless as a child, and he and his mom continue to distribute meals locally (his efforts inspire other young residents to help). ABC15
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ A three-quarter scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial will be on display in Surprise this spring at Mark Coronado Park from Thursday, Apr. 9 through Sunday, Apr. 12 as part of The Wall That Heals exhibit. The free exhibit plus mobile education center will honor veterans with interactive displays and name rubbings of service members. Surprise Independent
- ➤ Surprise's next LIVE at Asante event will feature country music by JT Sheets and Cole Clark Duo from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 15 at Asante Library (16755 W. Vereda Solana Drive) as part of the city's music series leading up to the country’s 250th birthday in July. Surprise Independent
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Shadow Ridge High School theater students earned an Overall Superior Award for their production of 'The Diary of Anne Frank' and will perform at the state conference as part of the win. Surprise Mayor Kevin Sartor honored the thespians with the Community Champions award at the Jan. 6 city council meeting. Surprise Independent
