- ➤ Garrison Ast, Matthew Spurlin, and Justin Proulx (from Surprise and El Mirage) were named to the dean’s list at the University of Jamestown after earning at least a 3.5 GPA in their fall semester courses; 421 students achieved this honor. Surprise Independent
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ APS seeks a 14% rate hike that could raise residential bills from $302 to $355 while data centers may face a 45% rise. Customers have submitted letters opposing the increases + public comment is set for Jan. 20 at 1 p.m. at the commission office on W. Washington St. ABC15
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The federal government cut nearly $2 billion in funding for mental health and substance abuse programs across Arizona Tuesday night — some services like crisis hotlines remain, but training and education programs now face sudden changes as providers, including those in Surprise, adjust to the new order.
