- ➤ Surprise announced the MLK Scholarship Program to support local college-bound students with tuition costs; graduating students in the spring may receive $500 awards (for accredited colleges, universities, or trade schools) as determined by the MLK Scholarship Subcommittee. Surprise Independent
- ➤ A handful of Surprise-area students reached academic milestones this past December — Robin Butler earned a bachelor of general studies from Northern Illinois University and Jason Stanfield was named a Distinguished Scholar at Rockford University for maintaining a 3.75 GPA. Surprise Independent
