  • From Friday to Monday, March 23, Bullard Avenue between Paradise and Tierra Buena lanes will be closed 24 hours for spring game events at the Surprise Recreation Campus — detours are in place and library parking will be limited. College baseball and a music fest are planned at nearby venues.  Surprise Independent

CULTURE NEWS

  • West Valley HQ Arts Gallery members will show floral arrangements at the Ikebana Exhibit (16126 N. Civic Center Plaza) on Friday, March 13 and Saturday, March 14; free admission includes an 11 a.m. demo on Friday and open hours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and 3 p.m. Saturday.  Surprise Independent

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Dysart Unified School District opened registration for its spring camp for children in kindergarten through eighth grade, to be held Monday, Mar. 16 to Friday, Mar. 20 at Sunset Hills Elementary School — campers enjoy arts and crafts, STEM, robotics, and games with sessions from 6 a.m. during most days.  Surprise Independent

SPORTS NEWS

  • Surprise will host the first game of its 24th season of Cactus League baseball on Friday, Feb. 20 at its northwest stadium, as the city also prepares for the College Baseball Classic this weekend and the Big 12 tournament in May, part of a plan to expand year‑round sports events.  Surprise Independent
  • Veteran left-hander Jordan Montgomery finalized a $1.25M contract with the Texas Rangers Friday in Surprise - he is rehabbing from a second elbow reconstruction surgery and may earn performance bonuses while Texas adjusted its roster for him.  Surprise Independent
  • Shadow Ridge senior guard Danica Lindemann, who did not plan to play this season, emerged as a standout by averaging 22 points per game and passing the 1,000-point mark on Feb. 10 at Apollo—boosting the team’s support as they turned a 10-12 record into a 16-8 season.  Surprise Independent
