CULTURE NEWS

  • Echo Rebellion, a band of West Valley kids including one 18-year-old from School of Rock, will open the Out of the Park Music Festival in Surprise today (drummer Jace Bonofiglio, 10, joined just over a month ago as the band quickly rises in the local music scene).  Surprise Independent

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Seven local teachers are being honored during Educator Week at Surprise Stadium as spring training begins while Dysart Schools’ students and staff enjoy spring break (through Friday). The city announced the Breakout Teacher Award to recognize these educators for their leadership, compassion, and commitment.  Surprise Independent

SPORTS NEWS

  • Forecasted high temperatures have forced three midweek spring training games at Surprise Stadium to move from a 1:05 p.m. start to 6:05 p.m. with gates opening at 4:30 p.m.; Wednesday’s game features the Kansas City Royals facing the Texas Rangers.  Surprise Independent
  • Surprise is offering the Majors 60-90 Baseball League and sports skills camps this spring; early registration runs through Sunday, Mar. 29 while regular sign-up starts Mar. 30 and the season runs from late April to the end of June for teens (ages 13 to 16).  Surprise Independent
  • On Feb. 27, West Valley Preps started the high school boys volleyball season by inviting local coaches to review teams, including the experienced Dysart Demons and Paradise Honors Panthers who are working to refine their skills to advance to the state tournament.  Surprise Independent
