- ➤ The Surprise Sundancers Board of Directors awarded $193,500 in scholarships to 50 local students on Mar. 18 at Surprise Stadium during a charity game. Recipients were recognized on the field before the spring training game. Surprise Independent
- ➤ The Surprise Youth Council is holding an open house for new members (seventh to 11th graders) on Wednesday, Mar. 25 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Cafe 60 in City Hall at 16000 N. Civic Center Drive. Surprise Independent
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Our Voice, Our Vote Arizona launched its 'Rent Is Rigged' campaign Monday to urge state lawmakers to stabilize rents, increase pricing transparency, and protect renters from high fees & evictions. The group warned that lawmakers must act before voters head to the polls in November. ABC15
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Maricopa County’s Health Department outlined a summer plan to expand cooling center hours, rides, and outreach starting May 1. The program uses the last COVID ARPA funds — a measure aimed at reducing heat-related deaths as extreme heat continues to be the top weather-related killer. ABC15
