COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Surprise Eggstravaganza will take place on April 18 from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Surprise Recreation Campus (15960 N. Bullard Ave.) and is free for all when a canned food donation is given to help Valley View Community Food Bank. The event will feature egg hunts at Surprise Stadium every 20 minutes for different age groups, a kids zone with inflatables, face painting and a petting zoo, food trucks, and a visit from Mr. and Mrs. Bunny while parking is managed with partial Bullard Avenue closures.  Surprise Independent

CULTURE NEWS

  • The AZ Swing Kings big band will perform a fundraising dance for the Surprise Youth Foundation featuring vocalist Vito Maynes at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 12 at Happy Trails Resort. They will also hold a free concert with Barry Dale at 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 23 at Desert Palms Presbyterian Church in Sun City West (a freewill offering will replace a fixed admission).  Surprise Independent
  • The WHAM Art Center will host a concert on March 28 from 7 to 9 p.m. featuring Brad Robin who will debut his new composition—One Voice Two Minds—inspired by Maggie Gautier’s poetry at the WHAM Art Center Gallery at 16560 N. Dysart Road.  Surprise Independent
  • Ground Floor Artists at 13343 W. Foxfire Drive announced its Spring Studio Tour, inviting Surprise residents to explore 28 studios and watch art demonstrations from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 29—an opportunity to see local artists in action and learn about their creative process.  Surprise Independent
  • The Jimmy Mac band will play a mix of country — rock and pop for dancing at Charley’s at The Lakes on Saturday, April 5 from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM and admission is free.  Surprise Independent

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Surprise officials said the general fund budget is in good shape for the first half of the 2025 fiscal year—current revenues and spending trends support a stable outlook.  Surprise Independent
  • Surprise Mayor Kevin Sartor and the city council have scheduled the annual State of the City event for Thursday, April 24 at 6 p.m. at City Hall — where a video presentation called Moving Forward Together will introduce strategic plans and the community will then enjoy complimentary refreshments, appetizers, desserts and live music.  Surprise Independent
