COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Diamondbacks recently announced they surpassed $100 million in charitable giving over 31 years (supporting hundreds of nonprofits statewide). Their contributions help groups like the Foundation for Blind Children host events and offer resources that guide local families.  ABC15
  • The bookmarks designed by six students have been chosen for the Friends of The Surprise Libraries contest and are now on display at the Surprise Regional Library (16089 N. Bullard Ave) for two weeks since March 30.  Surprise Independent

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Jimmy John's opened its third location on March 25 at 16427 W. Cactus Road, Suite 119. The co-owners Jeff, Ken and Nick Walters cut the ribbon — joined by City Councilmember Johnny V. Melton and Assistant Economic Development Director Mike Hoover.  Surprise Independent

  • The undeveloped southeast corner of 163rd Avenue and Happy Valley Road may become a commercial site as Kathy Walp from JMC Engineering calls for a meeting to discuss a zoning change for 3.4 acres. The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, April 1 at Asante Preparatory Academy.  Surprise Independent

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Mortgage rates jumped in March from 6% to 6.38% in Phoenix, adding over $40,000 to a typical 30-year loan and increasing monthly payments by $112 (figures that may slow home buying in Surprise and the Valley). Buyers face a tougher market as conditions change.  ABC15

SPORTS NEWS

  • Sun City Pickleball Club, chartered in 2003, promotes health, fitness and social connection among 1,132 members as of March 2026 at Marinette and Mountain View Recreation Centers - venues with lighted courts.
