COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The city of Surprise will host a water workshop called Converting Turf Grass to Xeriscape at the Surprise Water Education Center (16126 N. Civic Center Plaza) from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 12. Irrigation Specialist Dave Pratt will explain how to remove turf grass and convert sprinkler systems to drip (including plant recommendations).  Surprise Independent

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Pointer Sisters tribute band The Neutronz will perform at Desert Moon Cupid’s May Anniversaries Celebrations on Friday, May 16 at Coyote Lakes Recreation Club — doors open at 3 p.m. for a social hour before the band begins at 4 p.m., and tickets cost $20, which include appetizers, three cocktails, and a raffle drawing.  Surprise Independent

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A special water conservation presentation will be held tomorrow at 11 a.m. in the Surprise City Hall Council Chambers, where historian Jim Turner (of the Arizona Historical Society) will discuss the Colorado River's natural beauty, current challenges and water use solutions.  Surprise Independent

SPORTS NEWS

  • West Valley Preps announced the 2025 all West Valley Preps girls basketball team, selecting players from Canyon View, Sunrise Mountain, Millennium, Valley Vista and Kellis into three teams—Destiny Lunan earned state player of the year and coach Danny Soliman was named coach of the year.  Surprise Independent
