COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Animals and staff from the Phoenix Zoo will bring a presentation to the Surprise Resource Center on Tuesday, April 15 at 12425 W. Bell Road from 10 to 10:45 a.m. and 11 to 11:45 a.m. The program encourages children to explore bugs, bees, and beetles (theme: Backyard Bugs) as they use their senses to learn about nature.  Surprise Independent

  • Air conditioning companies in Surprise report a surge in service calls as record heat pushes homeowners to schedule spring maintenance ahead of triple-digit temperatures. Experts warn that despite manufacturers hinting at possible tariff impacts that could raise prices in the future, current costs remain unchanged—homeowners are advised to compare quotes before repairs.  ABC15

EDUCATION NEWS

  • West-MEC is hosting a ribbon cutting for its new Southwest Campus — where it will offer Automation and Robotics and IT Security Programs — Thursday, April 17th. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Surprise city auditors Carol Holley, Melissa Moreno and Angela Hanson received a pass rating in an external review—conducted by the Association of Local Government Auditors—and Bob Wingenroth praised their work at the April 1 city council meeting. Their achievement shows the audit team meets high quality standards in the city.  Surprise Independent
  • Surprise moved forward in plans for its first police substation after planning efforts were announced on April 11. The new facility will serve as an additional base for local law enforcement.  Surprise Independent
  • Surprise Public Works Director Kristin Tytler was named one of the Public Works Association’s Top 10 Leaders of the Year at the April 1 city council meeting as City Manager Bob Wingenroth announced the honor. The award recognized her lifetime service in public works—selected by past winners—spotlighting her career of excellence.  Surprise Independent
