COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Residents who are HOA community members, condominium board members or property managers in Surprise may attend an HOA Summit on May 21 at City Hall, 16000 N. Civic Center Plaza, from 6 to 8 p.m. — City departments will present local community resources and rule changes while a Mulcahy Law Firm session on new HOA regulations — registration is required.  Surprise Independent
  • The Surprise Parks and Recreation Department’s Adaptive Recreation Program received the Ginger Lee Francia Community Champion Award—given by the Dysart Special Education Parent Teacher Student Association. City officials said the award honors the program’s strong impact on inclusive recreation for people with disabilities—supporting quality services for all residents.  Surprise Independent

CULTURE NEWS

  • Recorded Recreational Reading for the Blind held a mini-fundraiser on April 16 at its KRUV Radiosun studio at 9447 N. 99th Ave. Volunteers gave a behind-the-scenes look at its weekly Golden Age of Radio program and announced plans for another public tour.  Surprise Independent
  • Surprise-based WHAM Art Center will host its annual fundraiser 'Swing Fore The ARTs' at Top Golf Glendale on Sunday, April 27 from 2 to 6 p.m. The event offers two hours of unlimited golf, food and interactive art activities — an online silent auction will run from April 19 to 28 to support its art programs.  Surprise Independent

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Surprise Fire-Medical Department officials credited their community paramedicine program with reducing 911 calls by about 78% and said the success will guide future emergency response improvements—officials noted the trend during recent evaluations.  Surprise Independent

HEALTH NEWS

  • Benevilla will host a free workshop on fall prevention and home safety tips from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday, April 24 at the Benevilla Education Center at 14601 N. Del Webb Boulevard. The session — led by Presley Reader from ComForCare — will show simple ways to reduce fall risks at home and has limited seating so an RSVP is recommended.  Surprise Independent
