EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Surprise families can now request early kindergarten entry at Dysart Schools for the 2025-2026 school year through May 9 if their child turns 5 before Dec. 31. The program offers a 40-minute screening on June 3, 4, and July 9 from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the district office—parents will be notified within five business days and a $60 nonrefundable fee applies. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Recycling is made simple by putting all items in one bin yet food residue and other wrong items spoil the mix—studies show 15% to 25% of the recyclables may be wasted and only about 9% of plastic is reused. Experts are testing new ways to sort plastics better while urging residents to clean recyclables and follow local recycling rules. Surprise Independent

- ➤ Petty Officer 2nd Class Nicholas Rinker, a native of Surprise, serves aboard USS John C. Stennis— a U.S. Navy aircraft carrier operating in Newport News, Virginia where he works as a machinist’s mate.
