- ➤ Local ceramic artist Lucas Costanzo donated 67 handmade mugs to Surprise Fire-Medical Department & El Mirage Fire Department as a tribute to firefighters. WHAM Art Center highlighted his project after months of refining techniques and gathering resources for his large‑scale work. Surprise Independent
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Cox and Phoenix Raceway Charities held a ribbon cutting on April 27 for the new Innovation Lab at Dysart Community Center in West Valley. The lab was built with two $25,000 grants and will offer technology, educational opportunities and community resources to youth, families and seniors. Surprise Independent
- ➤ Launch Team 6352 from a local high school, founded by Stephen Robertson after he saw a need for local robotics programs, earned the FIRST Impact Award this spring at the Flagstaff regional competition. High school junior Maisey Donick played a key role fixing the team's robot during the contest. Surprise Independent
- ➤ Maricopa Community Colleges will confer more than 18,400 degrees and certificates, including about 350 bachelor’s degrees, in May — a final season under Chancellor Dr. Steven R. Gonzales — as graduates prepare to serve in roles like nursing, teaching, skilled trades and advanced manufacturing. Surprise Independent

- ➤ The Maricopa Association of Governments launches its annual Heat Relief Network map today that shows four types of relief locations—cooling centers, hydration stations, collection sites, and respite centers—available until Sept. 30 across the Valley. ABC15
