- ➤ The Surprise Fire-Medical Department is offering Camp Ignite—a one-week program from June 23 to 26 with an awards ceremony on June 27 that teaches high school girls emergency response, CPR, firefighting skills, and team-building. Interested girls aged 14 to 18 must attend the orientation on June 22 and apply by May 16 with selections announced on June 1. Surprise Independent
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A 3-year-old girl remains in critical condition after being shot on May 1 near 184th Drive and West Bell Road when Surprise police responded to a call about an erratic man making threats to harm his family—48-year-old Dariusz Modrzejewski was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, including assaulting a minor. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Dysart Unified School District will begin destroying archived special education records from the 2020-2021 school year in July. Parents, guardians, or eligible students can contact the district—[email protected] or 623-876-7198—to review these records before they are destroyed. Surprise Independent
- ➤ The first graduating class from the Dysart Emergency Medical Services program participated in a mock mass casualty drill with the Surprise Fire-Medical Department yesterday to test their emergency skills — the drill simulated an accident with multiple victims. The program was developed with the city to meet growing EMS needs and the seniors will soon work to earn their Emergency Medical Certified Technician certification — further preparing them for local response.
