- ➤ CaliberCos Inc. signed a deal with Hyatt Hotels Corp. on May 6 to open 15 extended-stay hotels in five states (Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, Texas and Louisiana). The first Arizona hotel will be built in Scottsdale. ABC15
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The West Valley Arts Council announced 15 apprentices for the Gallery 37 2025 Summer Program — a youth arts initiative sponsored by Tolleson — and these students from Surprise, Avondale, El Mirage, Glendale, Goodyear, Peoria, Phoenix and Tolleson will work with a professional teaching artist at Estrella Mountain Community College to create a public art piece for the expanding Paseo de Artes along Van Buren Street. - ➤ City Councilmember Chris Judd discussed the White Tank Mountains and balancing urban growth with preserving natural heritage in a recent episode of Council Conversations—joined by Sharma Torrens and Laurel Arndt. - ➤ On May 6th, Communities Coalition chair Bud Meador wrote to Supervisor Lesko about a proposed BNSF Railroad InterModal Hub near Wittmann that may bring more air pollution, water risks, and extra traffic to nearby communities including Sun City West, The Grand, Corte Bella, and Surprise. He warned that the project may raise utility rates and pose national security risks—prompting a call for further review by county officials before construction proceeds. Surprise Independent
