- ➤ Residents of Wittman and nearby communities opposed BNSF Railway’s plan to build a $3.2 billion hub center — with an intermodal terminal, logistics park and logistics center — on 4,320 acres in the rural northwest Valley. Surprise Independent
- ➤ Surprise Original Townsite residents will soon see lower water bills after a deal removes the water recharge fee — the change will cut monthly costs. Surprise Independent
- ➤ On May 3, a U—Haul truck filled with 144 donated chairs was sent to First Presbyterian Church in Douglas by helpers from The Colonnade, Sun Health, Tim Landis’s team, and Desert Palms Presbyterian Church. The donation supports the church as it recovers from an arson fire that burned its sanctuary in 2023 — the congregation now meets in a classroom while working with its insurer to remove damaged interiors. - ➤ At the Dysart Education Foundation Scholarship Awards Dinner in Surprise, 19 graduating seniors received a total of $74,000 in scholarships at the Dysart Unified Support Services Facility. Families, school officials, and community leaders celebrated the students as they prepared for college studies in various fields — with SFE-Southwest Foodservice Excellence sponsoring and catering the event.
