- ➤ Today, as Arizona faces triple-digit heat, local postal carriers are collecting food donations at mailboxes for the Stamp Out Hunger drive—aimed at supporting local food banks. St. Mary's Food Bank officials said they expect to lose over a million pounds of food—an effect of recent government cuts. ABC15

EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Shadow Ridge High School won the Maker Championship in the Racing the Sun Solar Go Kart Competition for the fifth year in a row and also earned the titles Speed Champion and Best Overall Engineering Team. Coach Eric Bennett (named Coach of the Year) led a team that built the go karts over a year and raced them at the Musselman Go Kart track (Tucson). Surprise Independent

- ➤ The city of Surprise is hosting a Flag Day celebration on Saturday, June 14 to support U.S. troops by inviting residents to volunteer to decorate care package boxes—write cards and create patriotic crafts at the Community Room of City Hall from 8 to 10 a.m. Surprise Independent
