- ➤ Surprise’s first major furniture store, American Furniture Warehouse, opened on May 10 at 16600 W. Waddell Road when city officials and company leaders gathered for a ribbon cutting — customers chose to round up their purchase amounts for donations to St. Mary’s Food Bank. - ➤ The free exhibit 'IMPRINT: Native American Stories' opens with an artist's reception on May 16th from 5 to 7 p.m. at Arts HQ Gallery’s studio at 16126 N. - ➤ WHAM Art Center announced the return of its Kids Arts and Crafts Summer Camp for children ages 6 to 12 at its studio on N. Dysart Road. The camp will run on June 10, 11, 12, 16, 17, 19, and 23 through 25 with morning and afternoon sessions at $10 per class — each camper will receive a complimentary combo meal certificate from Raising Cane’s. - ➤ Arizona’s three major utilities have applied for a federal grant to explore potential nuclear reactor sites to meet rising electricity demand — the study aims to inform decisions for reactors that may go online by the early 2040s.
