- ➤ Surprise is launching summer swim lessons with a new registration process that offers a new location, extra class options, updated pricing and additional lesson times for residents and non-residents. The program runs from May 27 through July 30 at three local pools — Surprise Aquatic Center, Hollyhock Community Pool and Oasis Swim Center, where certified instructors will assess each child's ability on the first day. - ➤ WHAM Arts Center in Surprise will host the Five C’s of Arizona Reception on May 24 from 3:00 PM — 5:00 PM with art, raffles, refreshments, and a Nothing Bundt Cake giveaway to celebrate Arizona’s culture. Surprise Independent
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Governor Katie Hobbs said her team is working with California officials to keep gas prices steady when a refinery in Benicia shuts down next year after a fire raised local prices by about 20 cents—Valero announced the planned closure of that facility in April and another Los Angeles refinery will close later this year, reducing California's refining capacity needed for the Southwest. - ➤ Sneakybird, a local restaurant in the Village at Prasada, recently launched Camp Sneaky to support kids' education by teaming up with schools, teachers, students and parents for fundraising nights in Surprise—donating part of the proceeds to community groups. The restaurant also introduced a new slider menu item that features oven-grilled tenders paired with a variety of dry rubs and sauces for different flavor choices. Surprise Independent
