- ➤ Benevilla was named one of six Arizona nonprofits to receive the Ken Kendrick Grand Slam Award from the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation. The grant will fund the expansion and renovation of its Benefitness Adaptive Gym to help more adults with varying abilities (meeting growing local demand for adaptive wellness services). - ➤ Surprise P&Z approved a new Big O Tires minor vehicle service facility that will be built at the northwest corner of Grand Avenue and Mountain View Boulevard—future construction plans are pending. Surprise Independent
- ➤ Three members of the Surprise Police Department, including the interim chief, were interviewed for the open police chief position on May 20 — the finalists include Morin, Becher, and Valenzuela. Surprise Independent
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ The Perfect Game World Wood Bat Association West Memorial Day Classic will be held at the Surprise Stadium Complex from May 23 to 26. Over 130 teams from across the country will compete in six age divisions at practice facilities used by the Kansas City Royals — daily admission and tournament passes are available.
