- ➤ The Surprise Public Library System will hold its summer reading kickoff party Saturday, May 31 at Surprise Regional Library (16089 N. Bullard Ave) from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Library officials warn that attendees should wear clothes that can get wet due to a foam party and fun activities with no registration required. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Police in Surprise are investigating after a body was found around 9 a.m. Tuesday outside the Unitarian Universalist Church on Ave of the Arts near 115th Avenue and Bell Road—detectives combed the parking lot while neighbors noted the unusual police activity. AZ Family
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Four Surprise students have received Community Service Scholarships from the Desert Financial Foundation—part of a $198,000 award to 62 Arizona students. Tristan S. Germain of Shadow Ridge High will attend ASU this fall after earning a $5,000 scholarship. Surprise Independent
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Governor Katie Hobbs signed a new law earlier this month that lets construction crews start work at 5 a.m.—or 4 a.m. for concrete pouring—to finish projects before the summer heat peaks from May through mid-October. ABC15
- ➤ Today, the Surprise council asked for a transportation master plan to map the city’s transit future—this plan will guide improvements and address growing travel needs. Surprise Independent
