- ➤ A 32-year-old woman was arrested for first-degree murder after a fight on Monday night led to a 28-year-old man's fatal stabbing in the parking lot of a Surprise church (near 115th Ave and Bell Road) when police responded at 6 a.m. on Tuesday. AZ Family
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Surprise Public Works Director Kristin Tytler was honored on May 21 as one of The American Public Works Association’s Top 10 Public Works Leaders of the Year — the award recognized her outstanding service from her start in 2013 until her current role as director. She now leads the department which manages engineering, repairs, and fleet operations to support community needs. Surprise Independent
- ➤ Surprise city leaders unveiled a forward-looking transportation master plan aimed at strengthening local infrastructure—boosting economic growth and easing commutes, with public input guiding its next steps. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Poultry at Hickman's Family Farms in Maricopa County tested positive for avian flu Tuesday and the farm was placed under quarantine—officials quickly acted to eliminate the virus while eggs produced after signs of illness were kept out of the food supply and no human cases were reported. ABC15

- ➤ Nearly 30 athletes from Arizona will represent Team USA at the World Dragon Boat Racing Championships in Germany in July — they train at Tempe Town Lake and work as a team to honor the sport's long history. ABC15
