COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Surprise Aquatic Center at 15831 N. Bullard Ave will host its first dive-in movie night featuring Moana 2 on Saturday, June 7 with doors opening at 7 p.m. — admission is $5 for residents — and the movie will start around 7:30 p.m. Surprise Independent
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Surprise City Council approved renewing a $250,000 grant for early childhood programming managed by the Human Service and Community Vitality Department. The renewal will let the program run at the Surprise Resource Center from July 1 until June 30, 2026. Surprise Independent
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Jan. 28, 2025, the latest Point in Time count recorded 9,734 people experiencing homelessness in Maricopa County—unsheltered numbers increased 28% while sheltered numbers dropped 16% and the total count rose 3%, showing that local conditions have not improved. ABC15
- ➤ Surprise City announced that Lieutenant Evan Becher has been chosen as the new Chief of Police and he will start on June 9. He has worked since 2007 in key units—like Patrol, Investigations, and SWAT—and led a high-risk rescue last year. AZ Family
