- ➤ An HOA in Surprise reversed its decision and now allows Kendall Rasmusson to display a banner honoring his fallen brother, Sgt. John Kyle Daggett, after learning that a 2019 letter had conditionally approved the display for the holiday season. The company apologized for calling the display a nuisance in a May 7 letter and said it will review its software to prevent future mistakes — the display can remain up from May 15 through July 14. - ➤ The Surprise Parks and Recreation Department is hosting the Family and Friends Puzzle Challenge on Friday, June 13 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Sierra Montana Recreation Center’s Multipurpose Room — teams of up to four will have three hours to complete a 500-piece puzzle and compete for prizes. - ➤ Three Surprise-area students graduated in May from colleges across the country. Chance Greene graduated from Spartanburg Methodist College on May 3 (he earned a spot on the athletic director’s honor roll), Rebecca Jermolowicz earned a master of social work from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee on May 18, and Mikayla Renee Jowell earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
