- ➤ Benevilla, a nonprofit serving seniors and families in the northwest Valley, was honored by Arizona LeadingAge with the Best Practices Award for its innovative aging services programs. The award recognizes its licensed Adult Day Life Enrichment Programs—which are the only CARF-accredited Dementia-Specific programs in Arizona maintained for over 20 years—and its strong commitment to individualized care. - ➤ Surprise City Council has set aside $10,000 for groups planning community events and neighborhood improvements for fiscal year 2026. A pre-application meeting is scheduled for 5 p.m. Monday, June 30 in the Council Overflow Room at City Hall—complete applications must be delivered by 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22. Surprise Independent

- ➤ La Michoacana All Natural Fruit opened on June 11 at 13706 W. Bell Road (Suite C-20) in Surprise to provide residents with a cool treat this summer. City Councilmember Johnny V. Melton and other local officials joined owner Ernestina Carrillo at the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Surprise Independent

- ➤ The Surprise Senior Center will host a puppet show next week when the Great Arizona Puppet Theater presents 'My Pet Dinosaur' from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 25 at the Original Town Site center at 15832 N. Hollyhock St.—the show follows young Arthur's adventure with a birthday dinosaur egg and does not require registration. Surprise Independent
