CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Two men were arrested in Surprise for 41 burglaries that occurred from November 2024 to May 2025 — police said SWAT teams searched two properties using license plate readers and cameras to link the suspects to stolen items like firearms and a golf cart. Surprise Independent
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Three Surprise students made the dean's list this spring at out-of-state schools. Jake Railey earned the honor at the University of Mississippi with a 3.5 to 3.74 GPA, Olivia Holub met the requirement at Emerson College with at least a 3.7 GPA, and Caitlyn Leake was recognized on the University of North Dakota dean's list for ranking in the top 15% of her college. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The city of Surprise will activate a new traffic signal at the intersection of 163rd Avenue and Asante Boulevard early Wednesday, July 9 — this change comes several months ahead of schedule to ease heavy traffic. City staff will monitor the signal’s performance and adjust timings while drivers face lane closures and changes to left-turn rules due to ongoing road work. Surprise Independent
