- ➤ PGA SuperStore of Scottsdale is donating $60,000 to First Tee to let more Valley kids join a year-round golf program for $195 a year — the donation will help more than 60 children get on the course and learn the game. First Tee will accept new applicants starting in August. ABC15
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Arizona residents are warned that a sweepstakes scam targets mailboxes when fake checks for nearly $10,000 with spelling errors and typos are sent — authorities note that Publisher’s Clearing House never mails winners and advise reporting suspicious mail to the FTC or Postal Inspection Service — to prevent fraud. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Local artists must submit work for the 'Wanderlust' exhibit by midnight tonight at Arts HQ Gallery — the show runs from Aug. 8 to Sept. 11 and only Arizona-based artists aged 18 and older may enter if their art captures the thrill of travel. Surprise Independent
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ ADOT officials said that U.S. 60, Loop 303 and 163rd Avenue were widened, paved and restriped to add lanes and improve traffic flow—traffic is already open in the new configuration. Final striping will occur in late August and a second phase will start in early fall to add more lanes at key ramps. Surprise Independent

- ➤ The Arizona Sports and Tourism Authority awarded grant money to a Surprise charter school, the public school district, and a local hospital to boost athletic programs. Some funds will be used for LED lighting on athletic fields and to upgrade equipment for athletic trainer programs at local schools. Surprise Independent
