- ➤ Surprise’s WHAM Art Center has expanded its literary program with two new opportunities, including a gallery exhibit titled "Walking Through Words" that will debut in September and feature graphic book cover art alongside books for purchase. The program will also launch Author Circles on Sunday, Oct. 19, with a reception on Saturday, Sept. 13—inviting up to 40 published authors to share their work. Surprise Independent

- ➤ A recent ranking lists Surprise as the 3rd most affordable city in the West. The study shows that housing and living costs are lower than in many other areas. Surprise Independent
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Phoenix Herpetological Sanctuary will hold a reptile workshop at Hollyhock Library at 15844 N. Hollyhock St. on Monday, July 21 from 10 to 11 a.m.—the session will explain reptile adaptations and their ecological role and is open to all library patrons with no registration needed. - ➤ The Nadaburg Unified School District superintendent has joined northwest Valley residents to ask officials to stop plans to build a massive BNSF Railway hub near an elementary school—citing concerns about safety. Surprise Independent
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A Valley mom is urging state legislators to act after ABC15 reported 7,000 court cases for evictions in Maricopa County, as she faces higher rent and job challenges following her experience with domestic violence (she is also seeking employment in data analytics). She contacted lawmakers including Senators Gallego and Kelly, and while some legislation is underway, she remains in need of further assistance. ABC15
