- ➤ Arizona Animal Welfare League — the state’s oldest and largest no-kill shelter — will bring adoptable kittens to PetSmart to celebrate National Adoption Week, giving local families a chance to adopt a new pet. Surprise Independent

- ➤ SenesTech held a grand opening on July 17 at its facility on 13430 N. Dysart Road, Suite 105 with CEO Joel Fruendt and other executives cutting the ribbon—launching its only soft bait contraceptive designed for rats and mice. The product, Evolve Rodent Birth Control, uses cottonseed oil to help control rodent reproduction and manage infestations sustainably. Surprise Independent
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ A new art exhibit — titled 'One More Step' — from One Step Beyond will open at Surprise City Hall on Friday, July 25 and run until Friday, Sept. 5. The exhibit shows work from young adult art students with intellectual disabilities — on display in the lobby, hallway, and courtyard — and will be open for viewing weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. except on holidays. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ A letter in the Surprise Independent expressed concern that the planned BNSF rail hub in Wittman could lead to a surge in truck traffic—worsening congestion and air pollution near the SR 303 and Grand Avenue interchange in the West Valley.
