- ➤ 18-year-old Enrique Dominguez, who had a heart transplant last year, was surprised on Friday with full tuition at Hair J’s Barber School—he has dreamed of cutting hair since age 14 and wants to support his mom while giving back to the community. ABC15
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Court documents show that two local suspects, a Wendy’s manager & her boyfriend, were arrested on first-degree murder charges for killing Grant Siefert last November after a dispute with a coworker, with DNA evidence linking Bahschnitt to the crime. AZ Family
- ➤ Glendale Police arrested Jonathan Vasquez and Marciela Bahschnitt on July 22 for first degree murder and kidnapping—charges related to the November 10 death of Grant Siefert, who was reported missing from his Surprise apartment and later found in a retention basin. Surprise Independent
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Surprise’s Actors PLAYground Theater will stage two versions of the parody play 'Puffs' in August—one mainstage production from Aug. 1 to 10 and one youth production from Aug. 15 to 24. The play, which retells a famous wizarding story from the perspective of Hufflepuff members and is directed by Amber Ryan, is expected to draw local theatergoers. Surprise Independent
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Sheriff Jerry Sheridan said that federal oversight of the sheriff’s office may end soon and that the department will be fully staffed within two years. He added that public meetings plus community support indicate progress after a monitor was placed on the office in 2013. ABC15
