GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The city of Surprise has extended its online survey for the transportation master plan until Wednesday, Aug. 13. Residents who complete the survey can enter a giveaway for gift baskets that include spring training tickets + Out of the Park Music Fest passes and share additional feedback through the interactive mapping tool. - ➤ The city of Surprise installed two new school crossings on Cholla Street near Sonoran Heights Middle School and Rancho Gabriela Elementary on July 24 and is preparing to activate a traffic signal at Perryville Road and Desert Cove Road near Shadow Ridge High School. A new signalized crosswalk on Parkview Place near Valley Vista High School will also be activated this week—measures that aim to keep children safe as they walk, bike and get dropped off for school. - ➤ Surprise city officials are asking residents and stakeholders to review new building and fire safety standards that will adopt the 2024 International Codes, and comments are open through Sept. 8. Two public meetings for in-person feedback will be held at Asante Library (16755 W. Vereda Solana Drive) on Aug. 27 at 6 p.m. and at City Hall (16000 N. Civic Center Plaza) on Sept. 3 at 3 p.m. Surprise Independent

- ➤ Housing developer Dominium closed on land in Surprise to build Allasso Ranch at the southwest corner of Happy Valley Road and 147th Avenue. The project will include 304 affordable units and amenities — playgrounds, private backyards and a community pool — designed to serve low-income families. Surprise Independent
