- ➤ Surprise Parks and Recreation is hosting the free 'Backyard Bash: ’90s Edition' from 5 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 26 at Mark Coronado Park — the event will feature skate shows, food truck fare, a live DJ, a gaming zone, a photo booth and market vendors for all ages. Surprise Independent
- ➤ The Surprise City Council approved an agreement with the Arizona Board of Regents on Aug. 5 to allow ASU and the Sun Corridor Network to study fiber connectivity for better data transmission and real-time water site monitoring. The feasibility study will cost up to $15,000 and is expected to guide future upgrades to the city’s fiber optic system—improving overall infrastructure efficiency. Surprise Independent

- ➤ The new Nordstrom Rack in Prasada North will open with a pre-opening party on Aug 20 and a grand opening on Sept. 2. The 26,000-square-foot store will expand Nordstrom’s presence in Surprise and boost local jobs—joining Target and Starbucks in the shopping center. Surprise Independent
