- ➤ Meals of Hope + Rotary Club of Surprise + Sun City West will join Surprise for a day of service event scheduled for 9 a.m. to noon on October 25 at Faith Arena on the Ottawa University Arizona campus. Volunteers will pack 25,000 meals for Valley View Community Food Bank and teens 14 or older may participate if accompanied by an adult. Surprise Independent

- ➤ An administrative law judge upheld over $2.3M in fines against Southwest Airlines for allegedly retaliating against Arizona aircraft mechanics who used paid sick leave—Southwest said the ruling may force changes to its leave policy and plans to appeal as fines continue to accumulate weekly. - ➤ Surprise received a 2025 Silver Award from the International Economic Development Council for its playful #KaleEmergency video that promoted the city as a prime location for a Whole Foods Market + the Economic Development team will be honored at the IEDC Annual Conference in Detroit from September 14th to 17th. - ➤ North County Fire Medical District board chair Richard Bookie urged voters to support Prop 407, a bond measure that will fund new fire stations and updated equipment for first responders in Peoria, Sun City West, and Surprise.
