ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Salty Scuba Squad held its weekly Trashy Tuesday dive along Salt River on Tuesday to remove more than 1,500 pounds of trash while volunteers scuba-dived up to 20 feet underwater. ABC15 Meteorologist Justin Hobbs joined the effort as they returned one lost phone to its owner — further cleaning the popular recreation area. ABC15
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A local resident praised Surprise City Council for its strong leadership and unity at the Aug. 5 meeting + the letter noted that such effective governance builds trust in our local government. Surprise Independent
- ➤ A Surprise transplant who moved here almost three years ago has complained about very high electric and gasoline bills and noted that gas prices rose from $3.05 to $3.51 in just ten days. The letter asked local lawmakers why costs and taxes seem too high in Surprise — especially when national averages are lower. Surprise Independent
- ➤ Governor Hobbs called for a deep look into the Department of Child Safety after three child murders raised concerns—legislators and stakeholders met in a closed meeting at the Capitol to discuss how to fix the flaws in handling abuse reports and foster care. She said the review may bring administrative changes or require new laws to better protect vulnerable children. ABC15
