- ➤ Surprise teens ages 14 to 17 will visit Baffled Escape Rooms in Peoria on Sept 13 for an adventure field trip organized by Surprise Recreation—departing Sierra Montana Recreation Center at 9 a.m. and returning at 1:30 p.m.—with residents paying $35 or $40 for non-residents; attendees must arrive 10 minutes early, bring a water bottle, and have extra money for food. - ➤ Two new grocery stores opened this summer at Crossroads Towne Center at 12801 W. Bell Road—Brothers Market and African Staples. They offer authentic Arabic, African, and Caribbean foods for shoppers in Surprise. Surprise Independent

- ➤ The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office said as of Friday that it submitted the case of 41-year-old Ben Anderson for review by MCAO—his mysterious death in a desert near New River continues to leave unanswered questions. ABC15

- ➤ The Dysart Unified School District kicked off an Attendance Matters contest this month—coinciding with National School Attendance Month—and two schools will compete each week to raise attendance rates, with top teams meeting in spring playoffs. Surprise Independent
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Surprise teen Sutton Seigel—a 13-year-old with a gastrointestinal disorder—designed a custom shirt featuring Arizona’s State Forty Eight to raise funds for Phoenix Children’s Inflammatory Bowel Disease Program. She handed out the shirts at Phoenix Children’s as part of her Make-A-Wish Arizona project to support kids on tough medical journeys. ABC15
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ High school golf began on Aug. 18 as teams from Shadow Ridge, Valley Vista, and Willow Canyon built on strong returning players and emerging newcomers. Local coaches said their teams use veteran leadership and look to secure local sponsorship deals—such as with Sun City Golf Courses— to strengthen their programs for the season ahead. - ➤ Perfect Game’s Wood Bat Fall Kick-Off starts today in Surprise as the Surprise Stadium Complex hosts the 17U/18U tournament through Monday at 15930 N. Bullard Ave—Perfect Game will also host the 14U/18U championship from Sept. 12 to Sept. 15 and the 16U championship from Sept. 19 to Sept. 22 to offer a full month of youth baseball events.
