COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Police and community members in Surprise gathered at City Hall, 16000 N Civic Center Plaza, on Sept. 10 to honor 9/11 victims by walking 110 flights of stairs in the four-story parking garage, according to Sergeant Will Bisson. Mayor Kevin Sartor thanked the 35 police officers and participants — marking 24 years of remembrance for the fallen. Surprise Independent
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ City officials announced that some Surprise trash and recycling customers living between Jomax Road and McMicken Way— and from 147th Avenue east—will have their collection moved to Monday starting Oct. 6, so customers must put their cans out by 6 a.m. They said the change helps balance daily collections as the city grows. - ➤ A survey on city salaries shows that Judge Louis Frank Dominguez is the highest paid city employee in Surprise as he earns more than the city manager—marking a shift from the traditional council-manager system. Surprise Independent
- ➤ Traffic officials announced that the southbound Cactus Road exit on Loop 303 will close overnight from 9 p.m. Sunday, Sept, 14 to 5 a.m. Monday, Sept, 15 for road striping work, installation of overhead traffic signs, and an extra left turn lane—drivers should note that no access to Cactus will be available from the exit and detour routes via Exit 112 have been marked.
