- ➤ The Surprise Parks and Recreation Department is offering a one-week fall break camp for kids in kindergarten to seventh grade from Monday, Oct. 13 to Friday, Oct. 17 at Sierra Montana Recreation Center—14861 N. Spring Lane in Surprise. Registration costs $30 per day plus a $10 fee for residents and $34 per day plus a $30 fee for non-residents, and spots are expected to fill up fast. Surprise Independent
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Seniors in Surprise have received nonstop phone calls and emails that try to steal their Medicare details — scammers claim they will lose coverage if they do not verify their information, and officials advise calling Medicare first to confirm any request. ABC15
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Surprise Economic Development and Global Ties Arizona will host Desert Dialogues: Exploring Life and Innovation in Arid Climates at Arts HQ Gallery on Sept. 25 from 8:30 to 10 a.m.—residents can network with Middle Eastern professionals and later tour the Surprise Xeriscape Garden with the Surprise Water Resource Management Department as admission is $10, including coffee and pastries. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Surprise City Council has set 22 meeting dates for 2026 with a typical July break—regular meetings and work sessions will be held on the first and third Tuesday of most months, with meetings starting at 6 p.m. and work sessions between 4 and 5 p.m. Special dates include Jan 20 for the vice mayor induction, March 3 and 17 during spring training, a Monday meeting on Aug 3 ahead of a League of Cities meeting, and Nov 2 before Election Day.
