- ➤ On Sept 29, more than three dozen faith leaders gathered at City Hall to discuss emergency preparedness after a shooting in Grand Blanc Township left four dead and several wounded; Surprise Mayor Kevin Sartor and Emergency Manager Kim Campbell said places of worship must improve security (leaders agreed to review their safety plans). - ➤ D’s Outdoor Living opened on Sept. 23 at 11304 N. Dysart Road, Suite 104 in Surprise to serve customers with spas, hot tubs, swim spas and gazebos—owner Levi Kovacs cut the ribbon with Mayor Kevin Sartor. The Arizona company also operates a location in north Phoenix and plans a third store in Arizona. Surprise Independent
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Local high school sophomores will compete in one of the top wood bat baseball tournaments in Surprise. The Arizona Sophomore Fall Classic Baseball will be held at the Surprise Stadium Complex, 15930 N. Bullard Ave from Oct. 3 to 5 & other events for freshmen and Easton are scheduled later.
