- ➤ Rabbi Shlomo Ceitlin and his wife Batya will host Surprise's first-ever Jewish Expo on Oct. 19 to honor the Oct. 7 massacre in Israel and celebrate Jewish life in the region. The expo will welcome local community members and area officials—expanding last year's commemoration into a full event. Surprise Independent
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Dysart Unified School District will host a free career and college expo from 5 to 7 p.m. on Oct. 23 at the Dysart District Office, 15802 N. Parkview Place — the event will let fifth through 11th grade students and their parents explore career and technical education programs, colleges, universities and military opportunities. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Arizona Department of Transportation announced that Loop 303 will be closed between Interstate 10 and Happy Valley Parkway next weekend for pavement maintenance between Goodyear and Peoria. Northbound lanes will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday to 1 p.m. Saturday and southbound lanes from 10 p.m. Saturday to 1 p.m. Sunday — drivers are advised to use alternate routes. Surprise Independent
- ➤ Surprise Vice Mayor Jack Hastings and Councilmembers Patrick Duffy and Chris Judd will host a joint district meeting at the Surprise Gateway Training Center (13659 W. Cactus Road) on Saturday, Oct 4 at 9 a.m. The meeting will serve residents from Districts 3, 5 and 6. Surprise Independent
- ➤ Arizona families caring for children with disabilities now face less state funding as new assessment changes began yesterday. The Division of Developmental Disabilities and AHCCCS removed funding for children under 10 for attendant care and set age limits for habilitation services, so parents now must cover these costs. ABC15
