CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The city of Surprise will host its fourth annual Sensitive Santa Experience at Surprise Stadium on Dec. 13 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.—a calm, sensory-friendly Christmas event for individuals with special needs. Families will enjoy games, crafts, snacks and vendor booths with an ASL interpreter available from 10 a.m. to noon, and admission is $5 per family. Surprise Independent
- ➤ Surprise will host an outdoor art sketching tour on Thursday, Oct. 9 that highlights public art at City Hall. Teaching artist Rae Wilson will lead the tour at 9 a.m. from Arts HQ Gallery at 16126 N. Civic Center Plaza — sketchbooks and pencils will be provided. Surprise Independent
- ➤ Local six-piece The Salty Dawgs will perform a free concert with folk-era music and western humor at Spirit of Grace Lutheran Church in The Grand on Oct.22—doors open at 5:30 p.m. Tickets must be reserved by calling 480-438-1115 and a free-will offering will benefit Soldier’s Best Friend to help veterans train rescued service dogs. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The City of Surprise will offer a landscaping class on Integrated Pest Management for the Home Garden on Oct. 11 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Surprise Water Education Center (16126 N. Civic Center Plaza) where IPM Associate Agent Shaku Nair will explain safe and sustainable methods to fight garden pests. Surprise Independent
- ➤ Citizens for a Better Surprise—a local coalition—is urging voters to support the Dysart budget continuation and school bond to keep our schools strong and safe without raising taxes. The proposals will invest in teachers, repair aging facilities, and maintain high education standards to boost property values and community safety. Surprise Independent
