COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Sprouts Healthy Communities Foundation donated $5,000 to Wirtzie’s Preschool and Childcare at 16752 N. Greasewood St.—a program of local nonprofit Benevilla—at Surprise’s Sprouts Farmers Market on Sept. 6 as part of a $3 million effort across all Sprouts locations.  Surprise Independent

BUSINESS NEWS

  • ALDI opened its second store in Surprise on Oct. 2 after years of local demand; city officials including Mayor Kevin Sartor and Councilmember Patrick Duffy celebrated the ribbon-cutting at 17038 W. Waddell Road — marking the store's expansion as a key boost for local shopping.  Surprise Independent

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Darcy Weisner of Paradise Schools wrote a letter supporting Dysart Schools' upcoming budget continuation and bond—saying that strong schools boost local property values and build a better future for Surprise. He stressed that investing in education today secures brighter community outcomes tomorrow.  Surprise Independent
  • A Surprise city councilmember supports Dysart Unified School District bond and override measures that continue current funding for local schools without raising taxes. The proposals will update school buses and safety systems—helping maintain academic and extracurricular programs for students.  Surprise Independent

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Emergency personnel (from Phoenix and Scottsdale) are preparing for swiftwater rescues as Tropical Storm Priscilla will bring heavy rain to the Valley over the next few days (residents should avoid flooded areas).  ABC15

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Surprise officials are offering free sand and sandbags at five locations—Water Well Site at 16849 W. Jomax Road, AZ TechCelerator at 12425 W. Bell Road, Fire Station 302 at 18600 Reems Road, and temporary sites at 219th Avenue and Deer Valley Road plus 183rd Avenue and Norwich Drive—for residents in flood-prone areas as heavy rain is forecast due to Hurricane Priscilla. Residents must bring a shovel to fill the bags and call the transportation hotline at 623-222-6031 for assistance or to report low stock.  Surprise Independent

  • The Heritage Senior Apartments opened on October 9 at 10 a.m. at 15639 N. Nash Street—adding 99 one-bedroom units to support low-income seniors and address homelessness among older residents.  Surprise Independent
