- ➤ A New Leaf will host its annual ‘Fill the Truck’ donation drive on Friday, Oct. 17 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Riverboat Bingo, 18300 W. Bell Road in Surprise, where local residents will drop off household items to support families in crisis and enjoy free food and entertainment. Surprise Independent
- ➤ Surprise is offering a Teen Adventure trip to Fear Farm on Friday, Oct. 17 from 6 to 9:30 p.m. for teens aged 14 to 17. The trip departs from Sierra Montana Recreation Center at 14861 N. Spring Lane and officials say participants should arrive 10 minutes early for an evening of haunted mazes—scary surprises and adrenaline-pumping fun with extra money needed for food and drinks. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Grand Drama and Comedy Club will present 'The Companion Plan'—a heartfelt comedy about a grieving spouse who places an ad for a new companion—from Oct. 16 through Oct. 19 at the mainstage of Sonoran Plaza on N. Remington Drive. The two-act play features witty banter as a wife and her neighbor interview three unusual suitors. Surprise Independent

- ➤ ALA-West Foothills won 17-14 in Waddell after its defense stopped four Northwest Christian plays from its one-yard line, forcing a 99-yard drive + junior Kenyon Rosenthal ran 58 yards before senior Hunter Cotten scored on a one-yard run to give the Guardians the lead. Surprise Independent
