- ➤ Meals of Hope, the Rotary Club of Surprise and Sun City West will join Surprise’s day of service event on Saturday, Oct 25 from 9 a.m. to noon at the lobby of Faith Arena (Ottawa University) to pack 25,000 meals for Valley View Community Food Bank. Volunteers, including teens 14 or older with an adult, must pre-register as space is limited to 100. Surprise Independent
- ➤ On Sunday, hundreds gathered in Rainbow Valley to honor Vincent Upton, 42, who was swept away by floodwaters near Narramore Road (Waterman's Wash), marking one week since a 911 call reported his dangerous crossing. He was found dead today, and community members now urge safety improvements to help prevent future tragedies. ABC15

- ➤ Sculptor, muralist, storyteller and performance artist Zarco Guerrero will speak on Arizona legend Lalo Guerrero at a free event at Surprise City Hall Council Chambers at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22—registration is required. Surprise Independent
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Dysart Unified School District will host a free drug information night for parents and students on Wednesday, Oct. 22 at 6 p.m. in the Media Center at Valley Vista High School at 15550 N. Parkview Place to discuss risks and misconceptions about vaping, opioids and other drugs. Local law enforcement will help explain health risks, legal issues and warning signs while offering support resources. Surprise Independent
