- ➤ Surprise Police and Fire-Medical Departments will host another G.A.I.N. Night at Mark Coronado Park on Oct. 25 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.—the free event offers family-friendly activities such as trick-or-treating, laser tag, bounce houses, and public safety displays—food and drinks will be sold while the Salvation Army collects non-perishable food donations for the holiday season. - ➤ MINISO opened a new pop-culture store in Surprise that sells plush toys and collectibles at its 10,000-square-foot flagship location at 13220 N. Prasada Parkway—its special preview on Oct. 16 featured a ribbon cutting with City Councilmember Patrick Duffy and Store Manager Cody Pannell before the official public grand opening two days later. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Fifteen Surprise-area teachers from the Dysart Unified School District won a 2025 APS Supply My Class grant that awarded each a $500 virtual gift card for classroom supplies. They were chosen from 500 APS teachers through a random drawing held before the school year began — the grant supports educators in Title I schools. Surprise Independent

- ➤ Danielle Carpio, founder of the Healing and C-PTSD Foundation, said many survivors of domestic violence continue to suffer from Complex PTSD that is often misunderstood, and she is leading a national campaign to have the condition recognized in the U.S. during Domestic Violence Awareness and Prevention Month+ her online community now provides free guides, classes, and virtual events to help survivors learn about their symptoms.
