- ➤ The city of Surprise and the Wounded Warrior Project will host an open house for veterans and their families at the Surprise Resource Center on Tuesday, Oct 28 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Attendees must register by contacting Omar Lopez or Heidi Heniger — they will receive information on veteran services and a free lunch. - ➤ Surprise will unveil a new Fry’s Marketplace store with a 24-by-8-foot mural called 'Sunrise in Surprise' on October 31st. The West Valley Arts Council partnered with Fry’s Food Stores and artist Ariana Enriquez to create a piece that honors the local natural beauty, cultural heritage, and future growth. - ➤ A former city manager and grandparent urges voters to support the Dysart Unified School District bond and override on Nov. 4 to protect quality K-12 education in Surprise, El Mirage and the surrounding areas—stressing that strong schools help maintain jobs, property values, and local opportunities. - ➤ Dysart High School in Surprise had its first crisis in the second week of classes when an eight-inch water main broke near the auditorium, causing water to shoot out of a power box as repair crews dug under a foot of concrete to locate the leak — the district is also asking voters to support a Nov. 4th bond and override election to fund needed improvements.
