- ➤ A fall fashion show and luncheon will be held on Monday, Nov. 3, from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Colonnade in Surprise—local Tikvah members will model outfits from New Image Fashions and 15% of sales will support Hadassah’s charitable efforts—tickets cost $40. Surprise Independent
- ➤ Surprise is asking local business and community groups to sponsor the 10th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Celebration and Service at Willow Canyon High School on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2026 from 8 a.m. to noon—sponsorship packages offering promotional benefits are available through Dec. 12. - ➤ On Oct. 16, Surprise Acting Fire Chief Kevin Spirlong and Police Community Relations officer Chris Tovar opened the new Academy Bank at 16324 W. Pat Tillman Boulevard — Business Development Manager Kristen Johnson led the ribbon cutting that featured a Surprise Fire-Medical truck and food from Birrieria Las Marias. - ➤ Local voters in the Dysart Unified School District are gathering information as they prepare to mail ballots for a bond and override election—voters will decide on a proposed $127 million bond and the continuation of a 15% maintenance and operations override for schools in Surprise and El Mirage. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ A nurse practitioner thanked Rep. Abe Hamadeh for his letter urging the FDA to reverse restrictions on desiccated thyroid extracts needed by 1.5 million hypothyroid patients—she warned that removing access to this treatment would harm those who rely on it. She urged Arizonans to support maintaining access to these essential medications. Surprise Independent
- ➤ Arizonans who shop on the public marketplace for healthcare will begin open enrollment on Nov. 1, and the Arizona Department of Insurance warns that premiums may rise by more than 55% in 2026 if the government shutdown continues & enhanced premium tax credits are not extended. Residents and small business owners may need to seek alternative plans due to the potential cost increase. ABC15
