- ➤ Surprise is hosting a day of service on Nov. 15 from 8 to 11 a.m. at City Hall’s Community Room to support deployed service members, and the city is seeking volunteers and donations. A donation drive runs today until Nov. 14 at four locations — donations will also be accepted at the Veterans Day celebration on Nov. 11 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Surprise Independent

- ➤ OneAZ Credit Union broke ground on its newest branch in Surprise at 16617 W. Cactus Road yesterday—one of two new branches planned in the state with Peoria as the other—and officials have not announced when it will open. The nearest branch remains at 8285 W. Union Hills Drive in Glendale. Surprise Independent

- ➤ The free outdoor art sketching tour will run from 9 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 13 and is led by teaching artist Rae Wilson at Surprise Community Park. Participants will begin at the Surprise Regional Library lobby and must be accompanied by an adult—sketchbooks and pencils will be provided. Surprise Independent
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Dysart Unified School District reported that all 24 schools earned at least a B with 19 schools receiving an A in last week’s Arizona Department of Education accountability labels + the district earned an overall A for the third consecutive year. Surprise Independent
- ➤ At a recent Dysart Unified School District board meeting, newly elected member Steve Skvara voted against a resolution opposing the proposed BNSF intermodal hub—critics say the vote could lead to increased truck traffic, pollution and safety risks for local children and families. The decision has raised concerns among community members who question whether board members should be recalled if they do not put public safety first. Surprise Independent

- ➤ Paradise Honors’ new offensive line—led by seniors Jayden Marquez and Sean Lillmars—boosted the Panthers’ shift from an Air Raid approach to a run-focused attack that improved their performance in key games.
