COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Surprise is hosting a free Medicare workshop for residents. The session will run from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 10 at the Surprise Resource Center (12425 W. Bell Road, Suite 124) where State Health Insurance Assistance Program counselor Roberta Ezratty will explain how to apply and cover enrollment details including changes for 2026. Surprise Independent
- ➤ In 1975, while their husbands watched Monday Night Football, six housewives in Surprise started a friendly poker night that grew into a lasting bond. Now in their 80s, the Poker Girls are celebrating 50 years of friendship—decking out their old poker room with memories and photos. ABC15
- ➤ Surprise Parks and Recreation Department will host two tournaments this month & both events charge a fee. The teen sand volleyball tournament for ages 12 to 17 is set for 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Surprise Community Park on Nov. 14 for $10 per person while the family kickball tournament will be held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Dick McComb Fields on Nov. 15 for $5 per person, which includes pizza and water. - ➤ Maricopa County leaders will discuss changing zoning for a $3.2 billion BNSF rail hub near Wittmann as local residents voice concerns over quiet life + traffic issues. The board will meet Wednesday morning to review plans that may create up to 50,000 jobs and add over $250 million in local tax revenue. ABC15
