- ➤ Artist Joe Tyler will host a free tour of his home studio on Saturday, Nov. 8 from 10 a.m. to noon so locals can see his art and learn how he creates large public sculptures with botanical themes — registration is required due to limited space. Surprise Independent
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Voters in Surprise and El Mirage approved a budget override for five more years for the Dysart Unified School District but narrowly rejected a bond measure that could have brought needed funds—first returns Tuesday showed the bond measure trailing by just over 1,000 votes from 30,524 counted ballots. - ➤ On Tuesday, November 4th, West Valley voters cast ballots on two measures from Western Maricopa Education Center. Initial results reported 50.59% in favor of Proposition 403—a $415 million bond to fund new campuses and upgrades—and 62.61% support for Proposition 406 that authorizes selling, leasing, or exchanging district-owned properties. SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Registration is open for Surprise Parks and Recreation's winter youth sports leagues featuring Jr. Suns basketball, kickball, and NFL flag football for ages 4 to 17—early bird signups end Nov. 16 with regular registration starting Nov. 17. The season starts in early January and ends in February, with most games on Saturdays and practices held one evening a week. Surprise Independent
