- ➤ Food banks and community centers in the Valley are offering free or low-cost Thanksgiving meals and fixings for families in need this holiday season. Distributions will occur from November 8 to November 26 at various sites, including a turkey drive in Surprise (and events in Phoenix and Mesa) to help those in need. ABC15

- ➤ Surprise will continue to celebrate America's 250th anniversary with the free, outdoor 'LIVE at Asante — America's Musical Roots' concert series that offers live music and arts activities at Asante Library starting November 20. The series runs every third Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. through May and will feature different music genres and acts including Abby Walker and the Kenyon France Duo. Surprise Independent
- ➤ Gregory McNamee, a writer and photographer who authored 45 books, is the featured guest for Surprise’s Speaker Series event—he will present 'Seeing The Desert' at Asante Library on Wednesday, Nov. 19 from 6 to 7 p.m.—registration is required for this free lecture. Surprise Independent
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Surprise Parks and Recreation Department is registering kids from kindergarten to seventh grade for a two-week winter break camp at Sierra Montana Recreation Center on N. Spring Lane. The camp runs December 22 to January 2, is closed on Christmas and New Year's Day, and costs $30 per day with a one-time $10 fee for Surprise residents—while non-residents pay $34 per day with a $30 fee.
